Pine Meadow Lake is a 140 acre outdoorsman paradise. Originally intended to be the site of a resort hotel, the lake was created by construction of a huge earthen dam longer than a football field. The lake has all the ingredients of a perfect fishing and hunting destination and is now the home of a large mouth bass population that is the envy of many. Adjacent to Pine Meadow is Babcock preserve, a state run nature preserve renowned for its duck hunting in season. There are few places as private as Pine Meadow. The lake is completely owned and 100 percent private. During summer evenings the stars are as bright as anywhere in the Northeast. The owls come out and if you know how to talk to them they will talk back. Much of the year the beavers are busy at work building their lodge at the north end of the lake. A myriad of ducks make this their home. You can even watch the ice creep across the lake on an early winter night. If you seek privacy this is the place.

(1) Because the development rights to the majority of the beautiful farm and wooded land surrounding 450-acre, truly picturesque, Upper Moodus Reservoir, were deeded to the State of Connecticut for open space. (2) The house is located in a very sparsely populated, private community. The association beach abuts the property. But because of the "private" status and sparse association population, the beach is usually empty, except for a periodic beachgoer. If it is quiet you want - quiet you will get. There are only (I believe) three properties held for rental on the entire lake. There are only about 15 full-time residences and about an equal number of seasonal cottages on the entire lake. The vast majority of the land surrounding the lake is undeveloped. With so few shoreline homes, kayaking on the lake defines serenity. If you happen to be a "bass-aholic" - our lake happens to be rated as one of the top 25 bass management lakes in all of New England. Except for anglers, there is very little boat traffic. The property is located less than 5 miles from Good Speed Opera House and the CT River. Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos are only 45 minutes away. Our Lake House is about 1.5 hours from Providence, 2.0 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Ours is a baby-proofed, baby ready home, complete with stair gates, cabinet locks, outlet protection, a crib and high chair. Up until September, 2016, this was our primary residence. It remains our dream house. Construction was completed in 2007 and we have meticulously maintained it ever since. It has ALL of the creature comforts i.e. central air, central vac, High-speed Internet, 108" screen/home theater, pool table loft overlooking the great room, fully stocked kitchen and much more. This is an 18 person rental opportunity. The fully renovated cottage right next door (visible to the left of our property in several photos) 34 Hill Top Road (Home Away property # 133391) is owned by Karl and Sharlene Kieslich. If their property is available, which sleeps eight, more families can share the cost of renting. Karl and Sharlene are perfect hosts. Please do not be concerned about the close proximity of Karl and Sharlene's property to ours. They completed the total renovation of their property in 2005, the same year we began living full time right next door. With very few exceptions Karl and Sharlene only rent in the summertime. They have bent over backwards to ensure that their property was never rented to kids or rowdy people. There are only, I believe, three rental properties on the entire lake. Ours is not a tourist area; it is very definitely a residential neighborhood contained within a private beach association. I can honestly only remember one time in the 10 years we lived next door that their summertime tenants were noisy. In fact, by now, they have accumulated a large number of repeat renters all of whom are delightful. Regarding rates: In 2018, the high rental season runs from Saturday, June 16 through Saturday, September 8. Off season rates are $2,500/ week or $357/night, with a seven-night minimum. Less than seven nights is $500/night. During the high season, we only rent weekly, $4,500/week.

Small Cottage built in the 1950’s on Pickerel Lake. From the uneven steps to the sweeping lake views you will find yourself enchanted. There are three flights of stairs from the parking area down to the house.The Inside of this cozy cottage is simply furnished. As you enter, you are greeted by a three season room with a sweeping view of the lake, a small gas wall heater and a recliner for relaxing on those chilly days. From here you enter the main house which contains a small kitchen with a small island. As you pass through the kitchen to the living room there is a couch, coffee table and more views of the lake. The TV has basic cable, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime for your viewing pleasure. There is one large bedroom with a queen size bed, a small dresser for your use and a TV cabinet with a TV with the same viewing. The single bathroom has a shower and tub. Off of the living room is an enclosed porch with a kitchen table overlooking the lake. From the three season room there are stairs to a grilling area and outdoor table and chairs for dining. The lakefront has a fire pit, deck, and chairs. Access to the water is limited but if you choose to challenge yourself you may enter at your own risk for there is no dock. Use of the kayaks is also at your own risk and you will need to bring your own life vests. There is boating access at the boat launch on Pickerel Lake Road. We are located close to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casinos, Mystic Seaport, Goodspeed Opera House, The Airline Trail, various parks for hiking, and wildlife management areas. The lake permits water sports, but is very safe and quiet, and welcoming for kayakers and swimming. There is ample off-street parking spaces that can accommodate up to four (4) cars. What to Do: In the summer grab a cup of coffee and sit outside on any one of the comfortable spaces and enjoy a restful morning watching the ducks on the lake or do a little fishing right from the dock. We have poles for you to borrow or bring your own if you are a serious fisher! You can also bring your boat if your have one or use one of our SUPs to explore the lake. Swimming is right off the dock and the sunsets are awesome! If you are looking for more activities such as walking, hiking, running, etc. a visit to the Air Line State Park Trail might fit your needs. Entrance to the trail is about a mile up the road. If you are looking for some action in the evening, a visit to the casinos might be right up your alley! Foxwoods Casino is about 35 miles away and Mohegan Sun Casino is about 30 miles away. Looking for a little romance and wine? Visit the Arrigoni Winery about five miles up the road. Every Friday night has live entertainment.
